Wisdom & Faith

Having walked the way of wisdom and stepping out in faith…

Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. I guide you in the WAY OF WISDOM and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble. Proverbs 4:10-12

We both tend to be rather logical and like to have as much information as we can before making decisions. Change is usually hard and sometimes moreso when there are several unknowns and questions. Early in our time together we realized the need to search Scripture and pray to God for wisdom in making decisions about our relationship and our possible future together. It was important to discern how God was leading each of us individually and what our thoughts and feelings toward each other meant.

Erica described our journey as wandering along a path and approaching a bridge. We each had been walking our own way and had tried to figure out what we wanted and what God wanted for us. There were some detours and confusion about which way to go, but we kept walking down this path toward a common destination. After traveling awhile along this journey of wisdom, we approached a bridge. The bridge was covered in fog and spanned a chasm of unknown depth. It seemed unstable and we were unable to see the other side. All that we had learned about each other and experienced, all the wise counsel we received from family and friends, all the time we had cried out to God for discernment and direction led us to this next step. We had walked the way of wisdom as far as we could. We now needed to step out in faith trusting that God had been working in us and in our relationship and that He would continue to provide and direct.

So that is the story behind our invitation and in a way, the story of our future as well. We will continue to seek God for wisdom about our marriage and future decisions, and at the same time we know that we are to trust in His character and His promises that confirm that He will provide and care for us. We will continue in wisdom and faith because he leads us “along straight paths” and it “pleases Him.”

And without FAITH it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
